Replacing the glass or the whole window
When glass breaks or fogs, many people assume the whole window has to go. In most homes the frame is still in good shape, and only the glass or the sealed unit needs replacing. That is usually quicker and costs less than a new window.
Signs the glass needs replacing
- A crack, chip or star break anywhere in the pane.
- Fog, streaks or droplets between the two panes that you can't wipe off.
- Glass that rattles or moves when you touch it.
- Dried-out putty or missing glazing points around an older single pane.
- Cold air you can feel at the edge of the glass.
Which glass goes where
Glass in doors, shower enclosures and low windows near the floor usually has to be tempered safety glass, which breaks into small pieces instead of sharp shards. Double-pane units and tempered panels are made to exact size, so there is usually a short wait between measuring and installing. Cabinet door glass and mirror panels are measured the same way. We tell you which type you need and agree on the price before ordering.

Can you replace just the glass and keep my window frame?
Yes, in most cases. If the frame or sash is rotted or bent, we show you and price that repair before going ahead.
Why is there fog between the panes of my window?
The seal around the double-pane unit has failed and moist air got in. Replacing the sealed unit fixes it, and the frame usually stays.
Can you replace the glass in a patio door?
Yes. Patio door glass is normally tempered, so we order a tempered panel of the same size and install it in your existing door.
