Microcement can often go over existing tile once the surface is solid and prepared. The finished surface has no grout lines to scrub.
Small cracks and stains can be repaired and covered, but cracks that move or a weak slab come back through any coating. We check the base before recommending it.
Microcement goes on only a few millimetres thick, so it can often cover the existing surface instead of tearing it out. We confirm at the visit if yours is suitable.

Is microcement right for your space?
Microcement is a thin, cement-based coating, usually a few millimetres thick, applied by trowel in several layers. It gives a continuous matte or satin surface with a soft, hand-finished look. It can cover floors, walls, showers, countertops and stairs, often over the existing surface.
When it works well
- The base is solid, dry and not moving.
- You want few or no joints in the finish.
- A full tear-out would be messy or disruptive.
- You like a natural look with some variation in tone.
What to expect
The surface underneath decides most of the job. Loose tiles, damp concrete or cracks that move will show through, so we check them first. Each layer needs time to dry, and the sealer needs time to cure, so a project usually takes several days and the area cannot be used until it is ready. In showers and other wet areas, a waterproofing step is needed under the microcement. Once sealed, it is cleaned with a mild, pH-neutral cleaner, and in busy areas the sealer may need refreshing every few years.

Questions about microcement finishes
Can microcement go over tile?
Often, yes, if the tiles are well bonded and not cracked. We fill the grout lines and prime before applying it.
Is microcement slippery?
It can be when wet, depending on the sealer. For floors and showers we choose a sealer with more grip and talk through the options with you.
Can it be used in a shower?
Yes, with a waterproofing step underneath and a proper sealer on top. We check the shower first and include that step in the price.
How long before I can walk on it?
Usually light foot traffic after a day or two, and full use once the sealer has cured. We give you the dates for the product we use.
Does microcement crack?
It can if the base moves. Good preparation and a stable surface underneath are what keep it from cracking.
