Hiding TV cables safely
A wall-mounted TV looks best when no cords show, but not every cable can go inside a wall. HDMI and other low-voltage cables can, using wall plates made for in-wall use. A regular TV power cord cannot be run inside a wall, so power needs a different solution.
Options for the power cord
- An in-wall power kit, which uses a rated cable and two recessed plates.
- A new outlet behind the TV, quoted separately and done to code.
- A paintable cord cover on the wall surface, the simplest option.
What affects the job
Fireplace walls, brick, concrete and walls with insulation or fire blocking take more time to run cables through. Very large TVs need a stronger bracket and two people to lift. Before the visit, it helps to have the TV's model number so we can confirm the bracket fits. We check your wall and the outlet locations, then explain which option suits you and what it costs before we drill.

How high should my TV be?
In most living rooms the middle of the screen sits near eye level when you are seated. Above a fireplace it ends up higher, so a tilting bracket helps.
Can you mount a TV on brick or above a fireplace?
Yes, we use masonry anchors for brick and stone. Above a fireplace we check the TV maker's guidance on heat before choosing the spot.
Can you hide the power cord inside the wall?
Not the regular cord, because the electrical code doesn't allow it inside a wall. We use an in-wall power kit made for it, a cord cover, or a new outlet quoted separately.
Can you mount a very large or slim art-style TV?
Yes. Some slim TVs use their own bracket, and we follow the maker's instructions. Large screens need a heavier bracket and two people.
Can you secure the TV stand or console too?
Yes, we can strap a media console or a TV on a stand to the wall so children can't tip it over. Mention it when you book.
