What does the wall need?

A door handle that hits the wall breaks the drywall over time. We patch the hole and suggest a door stop so it doesn't happen again.
Anchors, nails and old screws leave holes that show through paint. We fill and sand them so the wall looks like one flat surface.
Rough or raised patches usually come from too much compound and too little sanding. We sand them down, skim them and feather the edges.

How a drywall patch should look when it's done
A good drywall patch disappears once the wall is painted. That takes more than filling the hole: the patch needs to be secured, taped, built up in thin coats and sanded flat, with the edges feathered out wide enough that you can't see a bump.
Common drywall damage
- Door handle holes, often in the same spot behind the door.
- Anchor and screw holes left after moving shelves or a TV.
- Dented or cracked metal corner beads on outside corners.
- Nail pops that show as small round bumps.
- Old patches that are raised, rough or cracked around the edges.
What to expect
Compound needs to dry between coats, so a patch is not always finished in one go. Small holes can often be done in one visit, while larger holes may need a second visit for the final coat and sanding. Fresh compound also absorbs paint differently, so we prime the area before you paint. On a satin or glossy wall, the patch may need painting from corner to corner to look even.

Questions about drywall patching and finishing
Can you match the paint after the patch?
We prime the patch so it's ready for paint. If you have leftover paint we can use it, but painting the full wall usually gives the most even result.
How big a hole can you patch?
Small and medium holes are patched with a piece of drywall. If the damage covers a large area, it's often better to replace part of the sheet, and we tell you before we start.
Why does my old patch still show after painting?
Usually the patch was not feathered wide enough or was left unprimed. We sand it down and refinish it so it sits flush with the wall.
Can you fix a dented wall corner?
Yes. We repair or replace the damaged corner bead and finish it so the edge is straight again.
How dusty is drywall sanding?
There is some dust. We cover the floor and nearby furniture, keep the work area contained and clean up before we leave.
