Setting the right closet rod height
A closet rod should fit the person using it, not just the builder's standard. Many rods sit around 66 inches from the floor, which works for long coats but is hard to reach for some people, and wastes space when most clothes are short.
Signs it needs work
- The rod bends in the middle, or the shelf above it sags.
- Brackets have loosened or pulled out of the drywall.
- You need a step stool to reach your clothes.
- Shirts and pants hang with a lot of empty space below them.
- A wheelchair user or older adult can't reach the hangers.
Options
A double hang uses two rods, usually one around 80 inches and one around 40 inches high, and roughly doubles the hanging space for shirts and folded pants. For accessibility, a lower single rod or a pull-down rod that swings down to arm's height can help. Long rods usually need a centre support every few feet. We measure the closet with you and agree on the layout before installing anything.

Can you lower a closet rod for someone in a wheelchair?
Yes. We set the rod at a height the person can reach while seated, or install a pull-down rod in taller closets.
Why does my closet rod keep sagging?
Usually the span is too long for the rod, or there's no centre bracket. A centre support or a thicker metal rod fixes it.
Can you add a second rod?
Yes, a double hang works well for shirts and pants. We need enough wall on both sides and a solid spot for the brackets.
Do you install full closet systems?
We install rods, shelves and hooks. A full organiser system can be quoted separately after we see the closet.
Will there be holes left in the wall?
Old bracket holes are filled. If the drywall is torn or needs painting, we show you and quote it separately.
