Grab bar blocking and wall reinforcement in Toronto
Renovating a bathroom, or planning for grab bars later? We add solid wood blocking inside the walls before tile or drywall goes up, and record where it is, so grab bars can be fastened wherever you'll need them.
The price is agreed before we start. If we find something unexpected, we stop and show you first.

Where are you with the bathroom?
Choose the one closest to your situation.
Open walls are the best time to add blocking. We install it between the studs at the heights grab bars usually go, before tile or drywall closes them in.
On a drywall wall we open a small section, add blocking and close it up. On tiled walls we look at the options with you first.
Even if nobody needs a grab bar today, adding blocking now is much easier than opening a finished wall later.
Tell us what you see or hear. Write it in the booking form or message us on WhatsApp, and we'll tell you what it is.

Retiling and paint are quoted separately, and any plumbing or wiring that has to move inside the wall is quoted separately or referred to the right trade, only if needed.
Why grab bars need blocking
A grab bar has to hold a person's weight if they slip, and drywall alone can't do that. Studs are usually 16 inches apart, so they rarely line up with where a bar should go. Blocking is a piece of solid wood fastened between the studs, so a bar can be screwed in at any point along it.
When blocking makes sense
- The bathroom walls are open during a renovation.
- Someone in the home is getting older or recovering from surgery.
- You want bars at the tub, shower and toilet without depending on stud positions.
- A shower bench or fold-down seat is planned.
- The walls will be tiled soon.
What to expect
On open framing, blocking goes in quickly and needs no repairs. In a finished bathroom, we open the drywall where the bars will go, add the blocking and close it up. Tiled walls are harder, because opening them means removing tile, so we look at that with you first. Either way, we record the positions with measurements and photos so anyone installing a bar later knows exactly where to drill.

Questions about grab bar wall reinforcement
Can you add blocking without removing tile?
Sometimes it can be done from the other side of the wall, through a closet or bedroom. We check that on the visit before suggesting anything.
Where should blocking go?
Usually around the tub or shower entry, along the long tub wall and beside the toilet, in a band wide enough for different bar heights. We plan it with you.
Do I need blocking if I have studs?
Not always. If the studs line up with where the bars should go, they're enough. Blocking lets you put a bar exactly where it's needed.
How will I know where the blocking is later?
We give you measurements and photos of the open wall before it's closed. Keep them with your house papers.
Can you install the grab bars too?
Yes. Grab bar installation is a separate service, and we can plan it for when the wall is finished.
