Motion sensor and timer switch installation in Toronto
Do your porch lights stay on all day, or does the hallway light get left on every night? We replace standard switches with motion sensor or timer switches, set the schedule or sensitivity, and show you how to change it.

What is happening with your lights?
Choose the one closest to your situation.
Someone forgets, or the switch has no timer. A timer or dusk-to-dawn switch turns the light off on schedule, so nobody has to remember.
The sensor may face the wrong way or its range may be set too short. We adjust the angle and sensitivity, or replace a sensor that has worn out.
Older timers often reset after a power outage or when the internal battery runs down. We replace it with a timer that keeps its settings and program it with you.

Quoted separately, only if you need it
Adding a neutral wire to an older box, moving the switch to a new spot or new wiring runs are quoted separately and done to code, only if you need them.
Choosing between a motion sensor and a timer switch
Both devices turn lights off without anyone thinking about it, but they suit different spots. A motion sensor reacts to people moving. A timer follows the clock. Picking the right one for each light avoids lights that switch off while you are still in the room.
Where each one works best
- Motion sensors suit closets, laundry rooms, garages and basement stairs, where your hands are often full.
- Outdoor motion lights help at side doors and driveways, where a light left on all night is wasted.
- Timer switches suit porch lights, bathroom fans and lights you want on at set hours.
- Dusk-to-dawn switches turn porch lights on at sunset without setting a clock.
What to expect
Many sensor and timer switches need a neutral wire in the box, which some older homes do not have. We check this before the visit when we can, and tell you if your box needs extra work. Most devices fit the same opening as the old switch, and we set the delay so the light stays on long enough for the way you use the room.

Questions about motion sensor and timer set-up
Can a motion sensor replace any light switch?
Most can, as long as the box has room and the right wires. Some sensors need a neutral wire, which older homes may not have, so we check before we start.
Will the light turn off while I'm still in the room?
It can if the delay is too short or the sensor can't see you. We set the delay and position so it suits how you use the room.
Can you put a timer on my bathroom fan?
Yes. A countdown timer switch lets the fan run for a set time after a shower and then turn off by itself.
What happens to the timer after a power outage?
Many newer timers keep their schedule or reset the clock on their own. We point out how yours behaves and how to correct it if needed.
Do motion sensor switches work with LED bulbs?
Most do, but some LED bulbs flicker or glow faintly with certain sensors. We check that the bulbs and the switch work together before we leave.
