Yes. For any hardscape or structure base, we excavate the organic layer (grass and topsoil) down to the subsoil to ensure a solid, non-shifting foundation.

What material do you use for the base?

Depending on the project, we typically use "HPB" (High Performance Bedding) or Granular A gravel, which effectively locks together when compacted to support heavy loads like hot tubs or sheds.

Can you level a very sloped backyard?

We can perform "cut and fill" grading to create flat usable terraces or install retaining walls to manage significant slopes safely.

Why is a Technical Visit necessary?

You cannot build on top of organics or uncompacted soil. If a shed or patio is placed directly on top of grass or soft dirt, it will settle unevenly within months, causing doors to jam or stones to crack. Furthermore, changing the grade of your yard can inadvertently direct rainwater toward your basement. Our Exterior Surface Prepping assessment evaluates the soil type (clay vs. sandy) and the natural slope to ensure we build a stable base that drains water away from your home foundation.

After the assessment we define a clear scope of work (tasks, inclusions, timeline, and material assumptions). Your quote reflects that scope as a fixed price it won’t change unless you approve a scope change or we uncover a hidden condition that wasn’t visible during inspection (e.g., concealed rot).
