It is a standard safety test where we place a 2x4 block of wood flat on the ground under the door. When the door hits the wood, it must automatically reverse and go back up. If it stops and rests on the wood, the opener is unsafe and needs adjustment.

How often should I test my garage door safety?

Manufacturers recommend testing the safety reversal system once a month. However, we recommend a professional inspection annually to adjust the internal limits and force sensitivity which can drift over time.

My door keeps going back up on its own. Is it broken?

Not necessarily. It usually means the safety features are doing their job—detecting resistance or a blocked sensor. We diagnose whether it's a false alarm (like a dirty track) or a genuine safety hazard.
